Landscaped green roof assemblies include both built-up systems and eco-roof tray systems. Either type may also include an insulating layer. Eco-roofs incorporate drainage, filtration, retention, and irrigation within one component.
Built-up assemblies, on the other hand, include the waterproofing membrane, insulation, drainage mat, retention mat, filter sheet, and growing media. Some manufacturers offer a single-source warranty covering all the components, including the plantings.
There are various materials used in green roof assemblies. Certain membranes contain plasticizers that may leach. A slip-sheet or insulation between the membrane and growing media can prevent this.
