The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) fifth annual conference and expo, Building Innovation 2017, will be held in Washington, D.C., from January 9 to 12. Located at the Mandarin Oriental, the conference will provide many opportunities for building professionals to expand their skill and knowledge repertoires.

Educational sessions focusing on a wide variety of topics will take place over the course of the expo. These sessions will be arranged according to a balanced schedule that optimizes attendees’ ability to choose the topics most relevant to their careers and personal interests.

For this year’s Building Innovation event, NIBS issued an open call for presenters for the first time. It received a flood of abstracts in response, totaling more than 150 submissions. This massive response provided the planning team with the varied topics that give its selection-based scheduling style its appeal, allowing them to capitalize on the exposition theme, “Collaborating for a High-performance Future.

The event’s first open call for presenters resulted in the submission of more than 150 abstracts.

This being said, the conference offers more than simply session-based learning opportunities.

Social events like luncheons and receptions will provide space and time for networking, while the exhibit hall will feature new products and services for attendees to view. Industry leaders will deliver addresses, and two awards ceremonies can be attended at the Institute Annual Awards Banquet on January 11, and the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) “Beyond Green” Awards Luncheon the next day.
