Winners have been announced for the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) awards, with plaques presented at the association’s Technical Meeting last month in Amelia Island, Florida.

To qualify for ASBA awards, a facility must have been built by a member of the association; to win, it must meet or exceed a standard cumulative score. This score can be determined based on a variety of factors, such as layout and design, sitework, drainage, base construction, surface, amenities, and innovation.

In each category (i.e. tennis courts, running tracks, sports fields, indoor facilities, and track and field facilities), specific winners are recognized as exceptional with Bronze Awards, Silver Awards, or the title of Outstanding Facility of the Year.

This year, in the track division:

  • CSR Athletic Construction was granted the Bronze Award for Tropical Memorial Park in Miami, Florida;
  • Fisher Tracks was granted the Silver Award for New Lansing High School Athletic Facilities in Lansing, Kansas; and
  • Carpell Surfaces project Gerard Filion Secondary School in Longueiul, Québec, was named Outstanding Outdoor Track Facility of the Year.

In the tennis division:

  • McConnell & Associates Corp. was granted the Bronze Award for College Boulevard Activity Center Tennis Complex in Olathe, Kansas;
  • Tennis and Track Company was granted the Silver Award for George S. Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City, Utah; and
  • Tennis Courts Inc. project Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, was named Outstanding Outdoor Tennis Facility of the Year.

In the residential tennis facility division:

  • Fast-Dry Courts was granted the Bronze Award for Pinecrest Residence in Pinecrest, Florida;
  • Lower Bros. Co. was granted the Silver Award for HSU Residence in Birmingham, Alabama; and
  • Pro-Sport Construction project Gladwyne Residence in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, was named Outstanding Residential Tennis Facility of the Year.

In the fields division:

A single project was also recognized in the indoor division—in Vermont, Sasaki Associates’ Virtue Field House at Middlebury College was named Outstanding Indoor Track Facility of the Year.
