Registration is on for the fifth Building Enclosure Science and Technology (BEST5) Conference, held from April 16 to 18, at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, PA.
Organized by the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC), along with the Building Enclosure Council–Philadelphia, BEST5 will focus on “Looking Back–Moving Forward: Where History Inspires Innovation.”
Participants can choose from more than 50 technical presentations on topics such as:
- design and commissioning;
- fenestration;
- building enclosure assemblies;
- barriers and sealants; and
- solar and sustainability.
Prema Katari Gupta, senior vice-president of the navy yard planning and development, Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), will give a keynote presentation on “Rebirth of the Philadelphia Navy Yard” on April 16.
They can also earn an ASTM/NIBS Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) certificate by participating in three two-hour pilot modules.
Both the BEST5 Conference presentations and the BECx modules have been approved for continuing education units (CEUs) from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The technical sessions provide up to 16 learning units (LUs), which are health, safety, and welfare (HSW) hours.
On April 15, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a free tour of the conference venue, which was designed in 1929. At that time, Loews Philadelphia Hotel was considered the first international-style skyscraper in the United States and the second high-rise in the country to have central air conditioning.
