American Concrete Institute (ACI) Foundation has announced its 2020 awardees. John W. Wallace and Frank J. Vecchio have won the Arthur J. Boase Award, and Kamal H. Khayat was honored with the Robert E. Philleo Award.
The Arthur J. Boase Award recognizes a person, persons, or organization for outstanding research in the structural concrete field, or for contributions to the advancement of concrete technology through application of the results of structural concrete research.
Wallace (University of California Los Angeles) receives the Arthur J. Boase Award for contributions to earthquake-resistant design of tall, reinforced-concrete buildings that utilize shear walls as the primary lateral force-resisting elements, and commitment to educating young structural engineers.
Vecchio (University of Toronto) receives the Arthur J. Boase Award for outstanding contributions made in the field of structural concrete and in recognition of work leading to the advancement of concrete modeling procedures and their application within nonlinear analysis software.
The Robert E. Philleo Award is for research in the concrete materials field, or for contributions to the advancement of concrete technology through application of the results of concrete materials research.
Khayat (Missouri University of Science & Technology) receives the Robert E. Philleo Award for outstanding contributions to research, teaching, innovation, and leadership targeting the advancement of high-performance concrete with adapted rheology and self-consolidating concrete (SCC), and the relentless pursuit of knowledge transfer regarding the science, performance, design, and testing standards of SCC.
