The American Concrete Institute[2] (ACI) has introduced a new decorative concrete flatwork certification to its programs, allowing individuals to earn two designations: decorative concrete flatwork finisher and decorative concrete flatwork associate.

To earn the designations, individuals must complete a written exam and maintain current certifications as an appropriate ACI-certified concrete flatwork finisher or technician. Additionally, the decorative concrete flatwork finisher certification requires 1500 hours of work experience.

The exam covers basic knowledge of proper installation and finishing procedures for decorative concrete flatwork, including:

Those who obtain decorative concrete flatwork associate certification may upgrade to ACI-certified decorative concrete flatwork finisher designation at any time during the five-year certification period.

The new certification is offered through ACI’s global network of more than 120 sponsoring groups[3] in local concrete communities. The decorative concrete flatwork certification will also be offered at the American Society of Concrete Contractors[4] (ASCC) annual conference, which will be held September 20 to 23 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
