AIA awards excellence in architecture

The American Institute of Architects[2] (AIA) announced the winners of this year’s Institute Honor Awards, recognizing projects exemplifying excellence in architecture, interior architecture, and urban design. Selected from 500 submissions, the 17 recipients will be honored at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2018[3] in New York City from June 21 to 23.
In the architecture category, the winning projects included museums, a courthouse, a school, and a sanitation department, while the interior architecture category recognized a library and photography studio.
This year’s Institute Honor Awards for Architecture recipients includes:
- The Broad[4] (Los Angeles, California)—Diller Scofidio + Renfro[5];
- Audain Art Museum[6] (British Columbia, Canada)— Patkau Architects[7];
- Chicago Riverwalk[8] (Illinois)—Ross Barney Architects[9];
- Gohar Khatoon Girls’ School[10] (Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan)—Robert Hull[11] and the University of Washington Department of Architecture[12];
- Manhattan Districts 1/2/5 and Spring Street Salt Shed[13] (New York City)—Dattner Architects[14] and WXY architecture + urban design[15];
- Mercer Island Fire Station 92[16] (Mercer Island, Washington)—Miller Hull Partnership[17];
- New United States Courthouse[18] (Los Angeles)—Skidmore, Owings & Merrill[19];
- Vol Walker Hall & the Steven L. Anderson Design Center[20] (Fayetteville, Arkansas)—Marlon Blackwell Architects[21]; and
- Washington Fruit & Produce Company Headquarters[22] (Yakima, Washington)—Graham Baba Architects[23].
