AISC honors projects with steel building awards

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) has recognized 12 projects for its 2015 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel (IDEAS²) awards program.

IDEAS², which recognizes the importance of team work, coordination, and collaboration, is conducted annually to award excellence in steel-frame building design. This year, 12 projects out of almost 100 submissions from architectural, engineering, and construction firms were awarded.

The projects honored with the national awards were:

• Denver Union Station (Denver, Colorado) in the less than $15 million category;
• Florida Polytechnic University’s Innovation Science and Technology Building (Lakeland, Florida) in the projects between $15 and $75 million; and
• The Vegas High Roller (Las Vegas, Nevada) and the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodel Center (Anaheim, California) in the more than $75 million category.

The Presidential Award of Excellence in Engineering was awarded to John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.

“The 2015 IDEAS² winners demonstrate the innovation and creativity found on building projects of every size and description,” said AISC president Roger Ferch. “Steel continues to provide excellent solutions for the entire design and construction team, from architects, engineers, and developers to general contractors, fabricators, and erectors.”
