The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has announced that licensure candidates now have the flexibility to test online, at Prometric centers, or a combination of both options.
Whether people test online or in-person, the exam’s policies, security protocols, tools, and navigation are the same for all candidates.
Effective December 14, updates to the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) include the following.
Flexible scheduling
With online proctoring, candidates can schedule appointments 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Exam content
The ARE’s content and division structure did not change, although the exam’s navigation, tools, and security policies have been updated.
Fewer exam questions
Each division now features 15 to 20 fewer questions.
Fees
Rescheduling fees are waived through the end of the year and will be reinstated at a lower rate starting January 1, 2021.
Whiteboard tool
To maintain the ARE’s security, scratch paper is no longer permitted for in-person or online exams.
