The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the International Code Council (ICC) signed a deal outlining each organization’s role with the International Green Construction Code (IgCC).
The code, co-sponsored by the two groups, along with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), and U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is set to release in 2018. It is powered by ANSI/ASHRAE/IES/USGBC 189.1-2014, Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings.
“Our goal in this partnership all along has been to share resources to increase use of the IgCC and make it simpler for code officials, designers, and contractors to build environmentally efficient structures that will use less energy and water consumption, and reduce the carbon footprint,” said ICC board president, Guy Tomberin.
The new publication will also align with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system program to ensure an effective set of regulatory and above-code options.
In other ASHRAE news, the organization is now offering a dual membership program with the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA).
“A joint ASHRAE/AIQA membership will allow IAQA members to access detailed ASHRAE research and combine this with practical application within the IAQA network,” said ASHRAE president, David Underwood. “We are excited to offer this and encourage all interested members to participate.”
