To address the housing shortage, a new men’s shelter, funded by New York City’s Department of Homeless Services (DHS), will soon be constructed in the North Riverdale section of The Bronx.

The six-story, 3,344-m2 (36,000-sf) shelter draws inspiration from brick apartments and is supplemented with corner glass bay windows, large window openings, and decorative metal paneling.

One hundred thirty beds are divided into rooms with three to five beds each, with a lounge area on each floor, while the dining room on the first floor is split into two parts.

RKTB Architects will undertake this project.
