A new modular campus just opened in San Jose, Calif., based on a design and modular housing concept created by the Office of Charles F. Bloszies FAIA to address Northern California’s housing challenges.
The new interim supportive housing complex, called 1 Branham Lane and owned by the City of San Jose, is the third center built on Bloszies’s Step (1) modular concept.
The community includes 204 units, including 24 family-flex units, and is part of San Jose’s plan to add 1,000 new interim housing units by the end of the year. This modular-built, supportive housing campus will be able to serve 216 clients at a given time. Some features include a pet park, a serenity room, and a community garden.
Other shared amenities for the community include elevators, laundry rooms, flex office space, privacy booths, a storefront for free everyday essentials, flex classrooms, and community rooms.
The 1 Branham project is funded by a $51.8 million California Project Homekey grant, a $38.8 million investment from the City of San Jose, $4 million from Santa Clara County, and $5 million from John A. Sobrato Philanthropies.
