Bill DuBois, CSI, AIA, CCS, LEED AP, is the new vice president of specifications at New York-based construction-consulting firm Tao Group, which produces the Praxis Live education series. DuBois, who previously served as senior associate at Gensler and led its global specification task force, is also finishing his tenure on CSI’s Board of Directors.

“Bill’s matchless vision and leadership in specifications helped guide Gensler to its position as one of the world’s most innovative and prolific design firms,” said Brandon Godbey, Tao Group CEO/president. “Bill has made countless contributions to the design market and specifications community. In his new role as head of global specifications at Tao Group, Bill will continue to serve the architectural world with his unmatched perspective, creativity, and passion.”

DuBois is looking forward to the challenge.

“Tao Group showed up at my office one day about two years ago and invited me to speak about specifying polished concrete at the World of Concrete exhibition in Las Vegas—my talk was about how much I didn’t know about concrete as an architectural specifier, and the difficulties I have encountered with communicating requirements for concrete,” he explained. “From that time forward, I’ve been challenged and motivated to get to the bottom of the issues of understanding, communicating, and achieving polished concrete design intent.”

A former president of CSI’s Metropolitan New York Chapter, DuBois credits the Institute for providing countless opportunities for professional development.

“I’m sure the bulk of my success can be contributed to the growth and reputation I’ve gained through CSI,” he said. “I am amazed at how much I draw from my CSI membership that inspires me to tackle my new career path. We at Tao are out to change an industry, and it’s a big challenge that affects a lot of individuals. I don’t know of any other construction industry association that can bring together all the various interests within the industry to share information and communicate freely in order to reach results that can benefit everyone.”

“It’s interesting to me that as I am coming to the end of my two-year term on CSI’s National Board of Directors, I am making a major transition in my employment,” DuBois continued. “I feel as though this change is allowing me to take my CSI commitments one giant step beyond the walls of an architectural firm and into the broader business world of construction. I feel I’m taking my role as a construction specifier to the next level.”
