Held in Orlando, Florida, this year’s CxEnergy conference saw resounding success, breaking records for attendance, sponsorship, and education. Its 550 building commissioning, energy management, and test and balance expert attendees exceeded numbers from all previous years, as did its 55 sponsors and exhibitors.
The April 24 to 27 event featured 32 technical sessions, which spanned everything from long-standing concerns (e.g. existing building commissioning, the building envelope, finance, and test and balance) to technology (e.g. light-emitting diode [LED] lighting and controls and automation) to newer considerations such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and cybersecurity.
Speakers represented various organizations, including the Department of Energy, Rheem, ABM, ComEd, Siemens, and TLC Engineering for Architecture. Ultimately, more than 3000 American Institute of Architects (AIA) continuing education credits were granted.
More-specific workshops were also featured, including one on Commissioning Authority (CxA) certification from AABC Commissioning Group, an Energy Management Professional (EMP) seminar from the Energy Management Association (EMA), and a Test and Balance Seminar from the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC).
Feedback from attendees was positive, with one presenter—Howard Wolfman of Lumispec Consulting—praising the “excellent conference and very qualified attendees.”
