Construction has kicked off on The Lirio, a 112-unit, permanently affordable mixed-use Passive House development in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.

The project by Housing Works, a non-profit working toward tackling homelessness, and real estate company Hudson Companies, will transform a former parking lot into a community hub.

Designed by architecture and interior design firm CetraRuddy, in addition to 44 affordable homes for families, 67 of the apartments will be reserved as supportive housing for formerly homeless individuals.

The building will also hold 678 m2 (7,300 sf) of ground-floor retail and 2,787 m2 (30,000 sf) of office space for the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA).

The project is targeting to comply with Passive House standards and is aiming to achieve LEED Gold certification. Completion is anticipated for 2026.
