The American Institute of Architects[2] (AIA) and the American Library Association[3] (ALA) are awarding four libraries with the 2020 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards for excellence in architectural design.
The AIA/ALA Library Building Award recipients must demonstrate design achievement, including a sense of place, purpose, ecology, environmental sustainability, and history. This year’s award recipients, selected by a six-person jury, exemplify these qualities.
The 2020 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards recipients are:
Billie Jean King Main Library (Long Beach, California) by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP[4];
Capilano Library (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) by Patkau Architects Inc.[5];
Independence Library and Apartments (Chicago) by John Ronan Architects[6]; and
Northtown Branch Library and Apartments (Chicago) by Perkins + Will[7].
