Designed as a landmark building for the wider Al-Ahly Club Sports City masterplan, a 42,000-seat stadium featuring a curving asymmetric facade and a sunken football pitch will be the first home stadium for Egypt’s Al-Ahly Club.
Architecture studio Gensler[2] has worked on the design for the undulating stadium outside Cairo that will also host other events throughout the year.
The stadium’s pitch is designed to be submerged into the ground to comply with height restrictions due to flight paths.
The stadium features double-tiered stands surrounding the pitch on three sides, while on the fourth side, an arched window on the upper tier will give views of the sunken pitch from a public square.
A cable-net structure will support an asymmetric roof, creating an open stadium with unobstructed views. The public square, Owners’ Plaza, will mark the main entrance to the Al-Ahly stadium and will be populated with cafes, shops, and an Al-Ahly museum.
