The iconic Horace E. Dodge and Son Memorial Fountain in Detroit recently underwent a complete renovation by Fountains by Water Works (FBWW).
The above-ground restoration involved removal of the stainless-steel facade, repolishing, and reinstalling. The large granite bowl that had numerous cracks were repaired, while the granite basin was reconstructed to ensure it was waterproof and safe.
The 168 outdated lights were replaced with modern, programmable LED lighting, and the fountain’s three water features—the misters at the top, the upward-spraying jets in the main basin, and the downward-spraying jets—were all disassembled, reworked or replaced, and reassembled.
After the fountain’s damage was evaluated, the panels were removed from the fountain’s dome light, its jet lights were repaired and then put back into place once they were in proper working order.
Underground restoration involved redesigning the fountain’s underground systems and original parts.
The entire restoration was completed in a span of three months.
