Nickel sulfide (NiS) inclusion failure is characterized by a breakage pattern resembling a butterfly, figure-8, or back-to-back D (outlined in red). However, other types of inclusions, and even impact, can occasionally create similar patterns, so until the glass is analyzed, NiS inclusion should not be assumed.
