Integrating natural surroundings with the project design, Montana State University’s (MSU’s) latest complex provides a collective, interdisciplinary environment for students.
Hennebery Eddy Architects[2] recently revealed the new Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship in Bozeman. The four-story, 4,912 m2 (52,875 sf) academic facility includes modern classrooms, several learning centers, conference areas, and open common spaces.
Jabs Hall integrates the breathtaking views of the natural environment, including the Bridger Mountains, with glass walls opening to a courtyard. A central common space provides students with glass desk areas, power outlets, and numerous fireplaces—creating a welcoming ambiance. Terra cotta panels coupled with vertical zinc panels line the structure’s north facade, designed to resist Montana’s drastic seasonal changes.
Jabs Hall is a LEED Gold certified structure, exhibiting sustainable design components such as a transpired solar collector, thermal mass, a ground source heat pump, and building openings intended to minimize heat fluctuation.
In addition to Hennebery Eddy Architects, the project team includes engineering by Morison Maierle, landscaping by Design 5, and Dick Anderson Construction as the contractor.
