Arizona HQ pays tribute to indigenous design
 
The design of the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority’s (NTUA’s) new headquarters in Fort Defiance, Arizona, was inspired by Navajo cultural elements, according to the project’s architect, Dyron Murphy Architects. Traditional building materials are complemented by modern, high-performance, aluminum-framed curtain wall, storefront, and entrance systems.

SUBSTITUTION PROCEDURES IGNORED
During the CD and submittal process, we have started seeing a refusal on the part of the GC to request substitutions, a refusal to follow the substitution process outlined in 01 6000 of the specifications. Generally, we have no objections accepting Substitution Requests during construction as long as the submitted product is a true equal, and the GC has submitted the request per the specified process, on a Substitution Request form, along with the backup information demonstrating the product's compliance with the specified manufacturer or system, but the absolute refusal to actually follow the specified process for requesting substitutions has been a surprising new stance. Who else has experienced this? How have you been handling this with your projects?
