Architecture firm Jahn recently completed the 1000M Apartments, a 223-m (788-ft)-tall skyscraper in Chicago with two distinct sections.
Located at the south end of the Michigan Avenue Historic District near the Chicago lakefront,
the tower features large, darkly colored aluminum panels that reference the surrounding historic buildings, while the top is set back slightly from the base and is glossier—in an effort to complement the Chicago skyline.
The first eight stories are extended far into the block and the west side of this base structure holds parking with amenities, including a pool at the top.
The east and west fronts of the tower are slightly curved, with the northeast featuring a hard-sloping edge, and the southeast features a soft and natural corner. A diagonal seam runs up the north and south faces of the skyscraper, accentuating the slight taper of the tower.
Glazed curtainwall and milled aluminum spandrels characterize the tower’s facade.
1000M Apartments is one of the tallest residential skyscrapers in the city.
