Polishing concrete skills with awards and annual conference

The American Society of Concrete Contractors’ (ASCC’s) Decorative Concrete Council (DCC) is seeking submissions for its 2018 Decorative Concrete Awards. Decorative Concrete Council[2] (DCC), a specialty council of the American Society of Concrete Contractors[3] (ASCC), is seeking entrants for its 10^th annual Decorative Concrete Awards[4]. Projects displaying excellence in craftsmanship, aesthetics, functionality, and creativity can be submitted until September 30.

Entries will be accepted in the following categories:

overlays;
cast-in-place stamped and special finishes;
stained;
polished concrete;
polished overlays;
countertops;
vertical application;
concrete artistry;
multiple applications;
architectural concrete;
decorative environmental; and
project video.

With the exception of countertops, where the size consideration does not apply, two winners will be named in each category (one for projects larger than 464 m² [5000 sf], and another for those smaller).

For those interested in further expanding their knowledge of concrete, ASCC is also holding its 16^th Annual Conference[5] this fall. Running September 14 to 17 at the Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix, this three-day conference includes social events such as golfing and kart racing, as well as educational seminars for professionals in the concrete industry. Attendees can further add to their credentials by completing the American Concrete Institute[6] (ACI) Flatwork Finisher Certification[7] class and examination on the first day of the event.

Tarbut V’Torah Community Day School earned first place for projects greater than 464 m2 in the multiple applications category last year.

Covering topics such as floor cracking, maintaining polished concrete, construction contracts, and workplace fatalities, the seminars are organized into the following tracks:

tech;
business management;
business field level;
decorative and polished concrete; and
safety.
