Registration is open for CONSTRUCT 2016 & The CSI Annual Convention, which will be held in Austin, Texas, from September 7 to 9.

The event, hosted at the Austin Convention Center and run by Informa, will include the usual CSI Honors & Awards Ceremony, which celebrates the efforts and achievements of those members who have contributed to the U.S. design/construction community. (Preregistration for this free component on the show, which takes place on September 8 at 6 p.m., can be done online at www.constructshow.com.)

A few of the award-winners have now been named by CSI in anticipation of the event.

Distinguished Service Award

This award is presented to a CSI member who has rendered distinguished service in the advancement of the institute’s mission or in its administration. One of the highest forms of recognition the Institute can bestow upon an individual, it will go to Duane Michael Johnson, FCSI, CDT.

Outstanding Contribution Award

Poppy Bushnell, CSI, CDT, and Cherise Schacter Lakeside, CSI, CDT, are both to be honored with this award for “contributions above and beyond those normally performed as part of a chapter, region, or Institute officer, committee, or member.”

Technical Document Award

Catherine M. Houska, CSI, a frequent contributor to The Construction Specifier, will receive this award, which is presented to an individual, chapter, region, or group for a single outstanding accomplishment in technical writing other than project specifications. Her most recent piece for the magazine is the May 2015 article, “Duplex Stainless Steel Revolutionizes Structural Design.”

Andrew J. Drozda Mentorship Award

This award is presented to a group or individual that has worked with an institution of higher education offering a construction-related curricula and has made significant contributions to enhance the image and recognition of CSI within the educational institution(s), or has significantly contributed to preparing students in construction-related curricula to make a difference in the construction community. Scott A. Didra, CSI, gets the nod for this year.

This year’s recipients of the Communication Award (for outstanding effort in the realms of continuing, electronic, or special publications) include:

  • Portland Chapter’s YouTube Channel;
  • William Sundquist, CSI; and
  • Steve C. Tubré, CSI, CCCA.

Organizational Certificate of Appreciation

The Organizational Certificate of Appreciation is presented to a firm that has provided exceptional accomplishments bringing CSI to the forefront of the construction industry, promotes one of the Institute’s tenants (i.e. education, certification, or development of technology), or assisted a local chapter, region, or the Institute to provide a value-added service. This year’s winner is Sanders 2000 Inc.
