Architectural plans have been released for the new Riverwalk Place in Tampa, Florida. Designed by Gensler[2], the 53-story mixed-use development is expected to be the tallest on Florida’s west coast and will feature condominiums, office space, and restaurants.

“We are thrilled to show these designs to the Tampa community and are excited for Riverwalk Place to become an icon that Tampa will present to the world,” says Shamim Ahmadzadegan, architect at Gensler. “From the outset, our goal was to do more than just design another tall building. We wanted the project to activate the Riverwalk and contribute to the urban landscape of downtown Tampa.”

Located on the Hillsborough River, design plans for the $350-million project draw inspiration from lines of sailboats in Tampa Bay, according to Ahmadzadegan, complete with a “curved arrowhead” pointed toward the Bay. The structure’s shape provides most offices and residential units with a view of the water and also makes the tower more resilient to wind.

The building’s ground floor will be merged with the neighboring MacDill Park, complete with a 137-m (450-ft) promenade, featuring restaurants and shops, designed to encourage pedestrian connectivity and engagement.
