Salesforce San Francisco HQ combines ‘homeliness’ and sophistication

Nestled in the Bay Area in downtown San Francisco, the recently completed headquarters (HQ) of the company, Salesforce, rising more than 50 storeys, was designed as a “home away from home” for the company’s employees, with a modern yet timeless aesthetic.

The architect, Feldman Architecture, designed the 929-m2 (10,000-sf) office area, called Salesforce Tower, keeping in mind the client’s values with the Bay Area’s cultural ethos—modern yet timeless, warm yet contemporary. The plan introduced residential design elements into the tower, including a living room, private nooks, and a kitchen, reimagining office functionality with a focus on the personal and human aspects.

A gently curving wooden core anchors the space, housing private meeting rooms and the kitchen, while the transparent office perimeter contrasts with this solid core. The design harmonizes with a clean, warm material palette, reflecting the client’s aesthetic.

Furnishings and details are soft and airy, with touches of oak, dark metal, and saddle leather. Even the door frames and hardware combine materials such as black textured metal, oak, and leather-wrapped metal, enhancing both acoustics and aesthetics.

Visitors are welcomed by the Sky Lounge, the office’s social heart, with sweeping views of downtown, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the Pacific Ocean. Natural light fills the central lounge, flowing into open collaborative spaces along the perimeter. These spaces range from flexible workstations to private offices, striking a balance between collaboration and focus.

In the living room, curved sofas create meeting and relaxation areas, complemented by suspended ringed light fixtures and round coffee and side tables. A standout feature is the expansive conference room, featuring three glass walls. Like a well-designed home, the layout transitions from open gathering areas to private retreats, with casual public lounges accessible to all.

The Salesforce Tower office space, according to the architect, embodies innovation, comfort, and a sense of belonging, offering a dynamic work environment where workers can thrive, connect, and make their mark.
