National engineering firm Simpson Gumpertz & Heger[2] (SGH) received a 2018 Gold Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) for its work on the University of Massachusetts John W. Olver Design Building on the Amherst campus.
Headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, SGH was retained by the University of Massachusetts Building Authority to assist in uniting five programs—Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, and Building and Construction Technology—into one facility. The timber-framed structure, which utilized sustainable construction practices, features a composite floor system.
“The awards honor this year’s most outstanding engineering accomplishments in Massachusetts,” said Michael J. Scipione, ACEC/MA president. “They are excellent examples of how engineers create projects that improve our lives and communities.”
SGH’s design was also recognized with a Gold Award at the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards national competition earlier this year. To read more, click here[3].
