These skylights are a good example of a high-quality installation in a challenging location. The American Society of Civil Engineers/Structural Engineering Institute (ASCE/SEI) 7, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, provides formulas for calculating the resulting dead, wind, snow, and other loads acting on the skylights, as does Chapter 24 of the International Building Code (IBC). The area between the wall and the skylight is especially difficult due to the possibility of drifting snow that must be accounted for in the design.
