Entries for the National Steel Bridge Alliance’s (NSBA’s) 2016 Prize Bridge contest are now being accepted.
The competition, which is held every other year, honors outstanding and innovative steel bridges. It began in 1928 and is the oldest, most prestigious awards program of its kind in the steel design and construction industry.
To qualify, bridges must be constructed of structural steel and located in the United States. Eligible entries must have been completed and opened to traffic between May 1, 2013 and September 30, 2015. A panel of industry professionals will judge each submission on its innovation, aesthetics, design, and engineering solutions.
Bridges may be judged in more than one category, but can only receive one award. The categories include:
NSBA will also offer a special recognition to one project best exemplifying accelerated bridge construction and a project with a full range of suitable attributes.
Winners are selected to receive either a ‘Prize Bridge’ award or a ‘Merit’ award. All award-winning bridges will be featured in the Modern Steel Construction magazine. Designers of the winning Prize Bridge entries will be presented with plaques and recognized at the 2016 World Steel Bridge Symposium (WSBS) in April. Owners of Prize Bridge entries will be presented plaques and honored at a banquet dinner during the 2016 American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Subcommittee on Bridges and Structures.
Entries are due online by December 14, 2015. Click here[2] to submit.
