The Clinton Foundation is partnering with Studio Gang to undertake a major expansion of the Clinton Presidential Center (Clinton Center) in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Clinton Center offers a unique perspective of the work—past, present, and future—of the 42nd President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton. It is home to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, the Little Rock offices of the Clinton Foundation, the Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas, and is a managing partner of the Presidential Leadership Scholars program. The Clinton Center is located in a 11.7-ha (29-acre) city park along the Arkansas River and is also home to the Clinton Museum store.
The proposed expansion will help the Clinton Center fulfill its mission to engage and educate people about President Bill Clinton’s lifetime commitment to advancing opportunities for everybody, instilling responsibility throughout society, and cultivating a shared sense of community. The project will enhance the center’s ability to host exhibitions, convene global leaders, and provide educational opportunities. It will also include the new Hillary Rodham Clinton Institute, which will hold her personal archives and papers and serve as a hub for her nonprofit and advocacy work.
The Clinton Center’s buildings, originally designed by the Polshek Partnership, were among the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified buildings in Arkansas. The library and museum building is now platinum certified, and the Choctaw building is gold certified. The expansion will build on this record of sustainable design and construction practices.
Studio Gang will work in collaboration with Little Rock-based architecture firm Polk Stanley Wilcox on the expansion. The Clinton Center expects to unveil more details of the expansion in 2024.
“For nearly two decades, the Clinton Center has inspired millions of visitors, convened global leaders, and served as a catalyst for innovative social and economic development,” says Stephanie S. Streett, executive director of the Clinton Foundation. “Studio Gang is the perfect partner to help us explore opportunities to expand our impact, with a focus on sustainability and bringing people together.”
“The Clinton Presidential Center was built to set a new standard for environmental performance,” says Studio Gang’s founding partner, Jeanne Gang. “We are excited to be working with the Clinton Foundation to advance that legacy, while also strengthening the Clinton Center’s role as a welcoming hub for cultivating a new generation of global leaders.”
