AIA awards excellence in architecture

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) announced the winners of this year’s Institute Honor Awards, recognizing projects exemplifying excellence in architecture, interior architecture, and urban design. Selected from 500 submissions, the 17 recipients will be honored at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2018 in New York City from June 21 to 23.

Arkansas university breaks ground on mass timber residency halls

The University of Arkansas (UofA) has begun construction on the Stadium Drive Residence Halls, its newest student residence. The endeavor is a collaborative effort of UofA Housing Facilities Management, the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, and the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design. When completed, the buildings will be the country’s first residence halls to use cross-laminated timber (CLT) and the first multistory advanced timber structures in Arkansas.

Shhh…. Class is in session

Students using Arkansas State University’s Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) building now have a quieter space in which to learn. In addition to a large atrium for groups to gather, the four-story facility—designed by AMR Architects—comprises more than 40 classrooms, laboratories, seminar rooms, and approximately 140 faculty offices.
