Gensler awards $30,000 in scholarships

Global design and architecture firm Gensler announced the two recipients of its Diversity Scholarships, which aim to inspire innovation in design by supporting architecture students from underrepresented communities. Rosa McDonald, a graduate student at North Carolina State College of Design, received first place honors and a $20,000 scholarship.

Research projects tackle biophilic design

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Upjohn Research Initiative has announced $100,000 in grants to be divided between four applied research projects, touching on biophilic spaces, biodiversity, and 3D printing. Judged by a double-blind peer review process, the initiative is designed to provide base funds for projects expected to be completed within an 18-month period.

Infusing desert geology in Arizona campus design

When planning the Biomedical Sciences Partnership Building (BSPB) at the University of Arizona’s Phoenix Biomedical Campus, designers from CO Architects and Ayers Saint Gross strived for the same regionally-inspired desert and canyon look they created with the adjacent Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB), which opened in 2012.
