Empire State Building’s observatory offers clear, safe viewing with fire-rated glass

One of the world’s most famous buildings, the Empire State Building, New York, hosts more than four million visitors from around the globe annually. As part of the $165-million redevelopment of the Empire State Building Observatory, the opportunity to transform the attraction’s famed 102nd floor posed an opportunity and unique challenge. To offer visitors clearer views to the city, designers used floor-to-ceiling fire-rated glass in the elevator that goes up to the observation deck.

Colorado museum maintains historic look with curved standing-seam roof

Transferred from the U.S. Air Force to a group of volunteers in 1994, Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum is located at the former Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. Today, the museum boasts more than 16,908 m2 (182,000 sf) of hangar space full of iconic aircraft, space vehicles, artifacts, military uniforms, and more. When the existing corrugated metal roof on the structure had reached its useful lifespan, the project team retrofitted it with a curved standing-seam roof.
