In the heart of Brooklyn, New York’s cultural district, a new 32-story building was created by Ten Arquitectos’ Enrique Norten with executive architect Ismael Leyva. The goal of this project was to draw people into the space. The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) South tower is a mixed-use building that employs a porous design and a terraced plaza to enliven an underused section of the district.
Construction has begun on Radio Tower and Hotel, a mixed-use, high-rise in northern Manhattan. The 22-story building is global architecture firm MVRDV’s first major project in the Unites States. It combines hotel, retail, and office functions in stacked blocks, and will reflect the character of the neighborhood, as well as set a direction for the future development of the area.
Celebrated architect Bjarke Ingels has completed designing WeGrow’s first school in New York City. The 929-m2 (10,000-sf) school in WeWork’s Chelsea headquarters is for children aged between three and nine.
A new 13-screen, 1208-m2 (83,000-sf) theater in Lynbrook, New York, features surround sound, two- and three-dimensional images, and vibrating seats with built-in speakers.
