Austin, Texas, is the site for this year’s CONSTRUCT & the CSI Annual Convention.

CONSTRUCT & the 60th CSI Annual Convention takes place from September 7 to 9, with a variety of activities and events in and around the Austin Convention Center. Produced by Informa Exhibitions U.S., the gathering brings together design/construction professionals from across the continent for networking, knowledge, Institute business, and the famous exhibit hall.

There are numerous opportunities to earn continuing education credits and learning units, while hearing from trusted industry experts on a wide variety of topics related to the built environment. There are also many special events, from Young Professional (YP) offerings and technical tours to awards ceremonies, the Celebration of Fellows, and the CSI Night Out.

To get a better overlook on what’s happening in Austin over the next few days, visit www.constructshow.com or check out our special section in the September 2016 issue of The Construction Specifier.

As the official magazine of CSI, we are excited to take part in the week’s festivities. The editor, Erik Missio, will be exploring the show floor (and occasionally hanging out at the CSI booth [641]) in between attending various seminars to meet with potential authors for 2017 and beyond. Chief among his duties will be presenting The Construction Specifier Magazine Article of the Year Award to Ray Coulombe for his excellent, well-received feature, “Remaking Division 28: Specifying electronic safety and security with MasterFormat 2016” from the May 2016 issue.

A frequent contributor to The Construction Specifier, Catherine Houska, will also be recognized with an accolade from CSI—she is receiving the Technical Document Award for her sharing of stainless steel expertise in the magazine and throughout the industry.

Several other Specifier writers will also be presenting technical sessions at the show. They include:

  • Pat Conway examining “Masonry Drawing and Specification Review” (W01);
  • David Metzger looking at “Deconstructed Specifications” (W12);
  • former editorial advisor Paul Bertram taking part on a panel titled, “From Paris to Austin: Low-carbon Buildings and Communities” (W19); and
  • Christopher O’Hara discussing the benefits of “Designing for Good” (W10).

Further, two members of the magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board will be especially busy. Ronald Geren will have his Board Chair tasks, and Sheldon Wolfe will become a Distinguished Member.

Are you in Austin? What are you looking forward to, either at the convention itself or in your visit to the Live Music Capital of the World?
