The City of Brookhaven’s under-construction City Hall building in Georgia is a three-story, 5,200-m2 (56,000-sf) structure, which sets a new benchmark for city offices by combining aesthetic brilliance with environmental responsibility.

Designed by Sizemore Group Architects, Brookhaven City Hall stands as a testament to innovation, featuring a unique mass timber construction utilizing cross-laminated timber (CLT) and timber deck structures over a concrete podium parking base. This choice not only promotes sustainability but also showcases exposed timber columns, beams, and decks throughout the facility, providing a timeless and visually striking design.

One of the key features that sets the space apart is the integration of granite and cast stone as the building’s skin, a departure from conventional mass timber building design. This choice, combined with strategic steel usage for long spans, dome structures, and masonry supports on the first floor, enhances the building’s durability and aesthetic appeal.

The City Hall is strategically located adjacent to public transit, reinforcing Brookhaven’s commitment to transit-oriented development, and includes electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to meet city’s mandate for environmental responsibility.

Inside, City Hall caters to both private and public needs, housing city offices and WELL Gold-standard staff facilities, as well as public spaces such as a multipurpose chamber that transform into a movie theater, rentable conference rooms, and a green rooftop, with an event space and a monumental dome.

The building’s design aligns with LEED and WELL Gold standards. Apart from Sizemore Group Architects, the project team also includes Britt Peters Structural Engineering, SL King MEP Engineering, McCarthy Barnes Construction, CPS Project Management, and the City of Brookhaven.
