Washington’s new waterfront cultural center uses timber mullions

Field Arts & Events Hall, in Port Angeles, Wa., is a new two-story civic and cultural center on the waterfront and integrates multiple natural elements of the city.

Port Angeles’ history and ecosystem are celebrated by the building’s design, with wood accents and natural materials throughout the building.

A curtain wall constructed of regionally sourced timber mullions offers a view of the multilevel lobby and conference spaces. The wood lobby ceiling is combined with integrated lighting that mimics sunlight.

Some of the other materials used in the building are high-pressure laminate panels, precast concrete, and fiber cement panels.

The building includes a 500-seat multipurpose performance hall designed to accommodate music events and festivals.

The arts center is the first component of a planned arts, culture, and science campus.
